Understanding indoor air quality as Canadian wildfire smoke looms over U.S.

East Coasters: Did you notice the hazy sky last week? Or get pinged with air quality alerts?

Depending on your location, you may have been affected by wildfire smoke drifting down from Canada. Again.

While not as dramatic as the June 2023 wildfire episode, Devon Payne-Sturges and I used the moment to update and publish our piece in Dialogue & Discourse on indoor air quality data and worker experiences from the RESPIRAR Project.

Why reshare? Because timely, evergreen pieces can spark new conversations and reach people who missed them the first time around.

Our team’s air quality data and analysis, captured during the 2023 smoke events, remain relevant — especially as wildfires grow in frequency and severity.

With ongoing federal rollbacks, states may need to step up to protect worker safety and public health more broadly during extreme weather events.
